1936 Attended Saturday Morning Art Classes, Art Gallery of Toronto; studied with A. Lismer, D. Medhurst, A. Taylor, G. Webber
1938-42 Attended Central Technical School, Toronto; studied with C. Goldhamer, R. Ross, C. Schaefer, E.W. Wood
1940 Instructor, Education Department and Children's Art Centre, Art Gallery of Toronto.
1943 Enlisted in Canadian Armed Forces; training at Petawa, Ont,; Sapper, Royal Canadian Engineers
1944 First Prize "Canadian Army Art Exhibition", The National Gallery of Canada; April, shipped overseas to England; October, commissioned, Official War Artist, War Records Dept. (1944-45 service in Belgium, Holland and Germany, mainly with the Fourth Canadian Armoured Division.)
1944-45 Studied at Central School of Arts and Crafts, London.
1945 Married Molly Lamb, Official War Artist, Canadian Women's Army Corps.
