Sanna Rahola

Biography

Sanna's interest in fibers began at an early age growing up in Finland. Woven wall hangings, rugs and runners, felt made boots, hat and mittens were common to every home. Sanna was taught how to knit and crochet in grade one and received her first loom at age four. With the realization that images could be created with fibers, Sanna began to work in tapestry weaving and felt-making. Using traditional techniques she translates the beauty of nature into pictorial form - whether found at her picturesque home in Walton, Nova Scotia or her childhood memories of Finland. Keeping in mind the traditions of her homeland, she uses raw fibers such as wool, linen, silk and mohair, hoping to pass on to the viewer the pleasure she gets from working with them.
